Sacred Heart Greenwich

Dear Sacred Heart Greenwich Tiger fans,

It was another impressive season for Sacred Heart athletics! In sum, our squash team placed 4th in the country and 2nd in New England; basketball finished 4th in the FAA; swimming & diving finished 2nd in the FAA and 10th in New England for Division I; and all teams, with student-athletes ranging from 5th to 12th grade, showed tremendous development, grit and hard work throughout the winter.

Our captains, upperclassmen leaders and all student-athletes continue to impress me on a daily basis. They embrace the motto of Honor-Heart-Hustle every day and represent Sacred Heart well on the court, in the pool, and beyond. Our captains from all three seasons had the opportunity to share information about their sport and seasons at Lower School gatherings this winter. Seeing the excitement and enthusiastic questions from the Lower School students was exciting and bodes well for the future of athletics at Sacred Heart!

Please read on below for more details about each of our teams, including pictures and highlights; and thank you for your support of our student-athletes. On to the spring season!

Go Heart,

Sacred Heart Athletics

The basketball program enjoyed another successful season across the board. The varsity team was young this year, with only three upperclassmen, but the team battled hard in every game and improved tremendously over the course of the season. The 7/8 A team played brilliant basketball throughout the season and was on an 8-0 undefeated winning streak before falling to Rippowam Cisqua in its final game.

  • Varsity Basketball advanced to the semifinals of the FAA tournament, after earning the #4 seed.

  • Varsity finished the regular season ranked 9th in NEPSAC Class A.

  • JV Basketball placed 2nd in the JV FAA Tournament, and finished the season with an 8-6 record.

  • 7/8 A Basketball had a tremendous season, finishing with a record of 8 -1!

  • 7/8 B Green and White had a record number of basketball players at the MS level this year, and these teams were examples of the depth and development that is so crucial to program success.

  • 5/6 Green and White teams both had strong seasons, showing progress from start to finish as they focused on the fundamentals and had fun posting wins along the way!

Our fencing group was small but enthusiastic; it was comprised of both Middle and Upper School student-athletes. Our program trained at the Fencing Academy of Westchester and saw great improvement and growth throughout the season.

Rowing had another successful season of winter training with the vast majority of student-athletes posting personal best times throughout the winter. We are excited to see what these students can do on the water this spring!

It was an amazing season for our squash program! All three Upper School teams, Varsity A, Varsity B, and JV, posted winning records; and our Varsity A and Varsity B teams made history on the national and New England (NEPSAC) stage.

  • Varsity A named the FAA Tournament Runner-Up (2nd place).

  • Varsity A took 4th place in Division I at the U.S. Team Squash High School Championships, our highest finish ever at Nationals!

  • Varsity A finished in 2nd place in New England - our best ever finish in Class A (Sacred Heart won the Class B title in 2008); Caroline Fouts ’24 was named the New England Champion in Class A

  • Varsity B Squash was named the U.S. Interscholastic Team Squash Champions in the first year of the tournament.

  • JV finished its season with a 8-2 record, demonstrating our program’s depth and skill.

  • All three MS squash teams had strong seasons with each individual athlete improving throughout the course of the winter.

  • At Middle School Nationals, our A team finished 8th in Division I and our B team finished 7th in Division II.

  • Instructional Squash had the largest group of students to date, including the expansion to 5th grade for the first time.

Varsity Swimming and Diving showed its skill on the board and speed in the water this season, combining for strong finishes at dual meets and their three championships.

  • Swimming and Diving placed 2nd at the FAA Championships. This is our best-ever finish at FAA Championships as a team!

  • Swimming & Diving team placed 10th overall in New England Division I. Alexandra Bastone ’23 placed 1st and was named the New England Individual Champion in the 500m Freestyle.

  • Swimming placed 12th at the Catholic Championships; Alexandra Bastone ’23 named the Swimmer of the Meet.

  • Our senior divers, Piper Van Wagenen and Celia Daigle, placed 8th and 11th respectively at New England Championships.

  • Diving doubled in size between last year and this year, and saw success throughout the regular season; in four out of five dual meets, we swept the podium and took home 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

  • Middle School Swimming had a strong season, expanding to include students from grades 5 through 8. While MS swim meets don’t keep score, we saw a number of swimmers have successful races across all events and the team did well in every competition. The future is bright for our program!

Thanks to the efforts of Upper School students, we saw the start of a Sacred Heart Dance Team this winter. It was a student-led effort, which culminated in a performance at our Winter Tiger Day during halftime of a Varsity Basketball game.  The students did an incredible job of putting this together, and we are excited to see where this team goes in the future and expand their performance opportunities.
