Sacred Heart Greenwich

Dear Sacred Heart Greenwich Tiger fans,

It was a historic fall for Sacred Heart athletics! In sum, we won the Class A New England Championship in Field Hockey, four middle school teams were undefeated, and we saw individual improvement and development from all our student-athletes.

Other updates from this fall include expanding our interscholastic athletics program at Sacred Heart to the 5th grade, and offering fitness programming for students not participating on an interscholastic team

Please read on below for more details about each of our teams, including pictures and highlights; and thank you for your support of our student-athletes. On to the winter season!

Go Heart,

Sacred Heart Athletics

Cross Country had a solid season with a small but dedicated group of athletes that trained hard and effectively throughout the fall. A young varsity team with lots of energy and commitment means the future is bright! In addition, the Middle School program saw one of the largest groups in recent years - a great sign for the future of our Cross Country program.

  • FAA Regular Season and FAA Championship Meet ‐ 3rd place team finish in both!

  • 12th out of 17 at the D2 New England Championships

  • Ava Lillis ’24 finished 18th overall at New Englands - our top finisher, earning a medal and qualifying for the New England All-Star Meet.

  • Middle School Cross Country scores every runner individually. Some of our top finishers include:
    • 5th grader Maria Fieler - 3rd place overall
    • 6th grader Laurie Starke - 3rd place overall
    • 7th grader Maggie Finn - 5th place overall
    • 8th grader Ella Erlich - 5th place overall

We had a large group of dedicated field hockey players this year in the Upper School, as we fielded three teams - Varsity A, Varsity B, and JV, as well as two solid middle school teams spanning 5th through 8th grades. Some practices even included scrimmages and mixed training between our MS and US teams - a sign of program cohesion and a focus on development. All teams saw success on and off the playing field, some unprecedented!

  • Varsity A WON the New England Class A Field Hockey tournament after finishing the regular season 15-0, being crowned FAA Regular Season Champions (7-0 in FAA regular season play) and finishing 2nd in the FAA tournament! This is the first time since 2008 that we have won the FAA Regular Season, and the first time EVER for Sacred Heart to win a Class A NEPSAC tournament title.

  • Varsity A also attended the first-ever Max Prep HS Field Hockey tournament in September where they had the opportunity to face a number of out-of-region teams and see a high level of competition. This trip was crucial in their ability to come together as a team and have a historic season down the back stretch of the fall.

  • Varsity B was unbeaten - finishing the season with a 5-0-2 record and a number of additional wins in round robin play. For many of the athletes on this team, that is two years in a row not losing a game in their field hockey career at Sacred Heart!

  • JV showed improvement throughout the fall, finishing with a winning season and a record of 6-2-2.

  • 7/8 A Field Hockey was unbeaten - finishing with an 8-0-2 record!

  • 5/6 Field Hockey had a great season, the first combining the two grades. These team saw improvement throughout each game, ending with a record of 2-3-1.

Rowing posted some of its best results in recent years this fall. It is a relatively young team with lots of depth in the freshmen and sophomore classes, which is great for the future. This, coupled with strong senior leadership, resulted in strong finishes across the board and a solid platform from which to continue to build speed as we look ahead to the spring season.

  • The team competed at the Head of the Charles for the first time in three years in the Junior 4+. The crew raced hard in a deep, fast field and finished 58th of 85 crews.

  • The Freshmen 8+ finished 2nd and the Varsity 8+ finished 8th of 20 crews at the New England Fall Championship Regatta

  • Results throughout the season showed Sacred Heart finishing ahead of a number of other NEIRA schools and area club programs - a great marker of program depth and improvement.

  • RowAmerica Greenwich has started construction on their new boathouse, and we look forward to calling that building home in the near future!

The Soccer program at Sacred Heart continues to grow and thrive with a strong group of student-athletes from 5th to 12th grades, MS to Varsity. Soccer was our largest fall sport with 100 student-athletes involved in the program. The energy around the soccer program is contagious and exciting, and we are excited to continue to build on it in years to come at every level.

  • Varsity Soccer made history as they finished the FAA regular season 7-1 - earning them the FAA Regular Season Championship title for the first time since 1986! They also posted big program wins this year, including a first-ever win over Loomis Chaffee.

  • JV Soccer placed 2nd in the FAA JV Tournament after a strong season, finishing 10-4-0. This team is a great example of the depth and athleticism in our soccer program.

  • 7/8 A Soccer made history at the MS level, with program wins over MS FAA teams and local public schools that we had not previously beaten. They went undefeated with a 8-0 record!

  • 7/8 B soccer was another great example of the depth of skill and athleticism in the 7th and 8th grade classes. They demonstrated hard work and grit in every game, and we look forward to these students continuing to contribute to our soccer program in years to come.

  • 6th Grade Green Soccer demonstrated continued depth in our soccer student-athletes, also finishing undefeated at 6-0!

  • 5th grade soccer was one of our most popular offerings for this grade in its inaugural season. Their last game was one of their best and most exciting, when they played 9v9 against Whitby School and ended in a tie 3-3!

Middle School tennis had a solid season, focusing on fundamentals and match strategy. They finished the season with a winning record, 3-1-0. We look forward to seeing some of these student-athletes in our Upper School program in the future!

The skill and popularity of our Volleyball program continues to show as interest increases at the MS level, and the quality of play and volleyball IQ raises each year for all our teams. With the strength of the FAA Volleyball league and the talent in our program, we are well positioned to continue to compete at a high level in years to come!

  • Varsity finished 4th overall in the FAA regular season, and with strong wins against Class A schools including Choate, Greenwich Academy, Deerfield, Taft and Kent, we earned an invitation to the Class A New England Tournament as the 8th seed! The team fell in the quarterfinals against the #1 seed Exeter in a great match.

  • Three quarters of the way through the season, our Varsity team was ranked 5th in New England Class A, our highest ever ranking.

  • The JV team showed improvement throughout the season, coming together as a team. They then capped it off with a WIN in the JV FAA Tournament!

  • MS Green Volleyball demonstrated that the future is bright - charging through their season and going undefeated at 10-0.

  • The MS White team showed both individual and team improvement throughout the season. Each student-athletes made significant strides each day, whether it was in their serving skill, passing the ball, or working effectively as a team to pull out the win!
