Dear Sacred Heart Greenwich Tiger fans,
This was a meaningful and successful season for all of our student-athletes, coaches and each sport program. We came together on Sports Night to learn more about female empowerment and resilience from Commander Becky Calder.
Our student-athletes and coaches rose to the occasion and made the most out of every practice opportunity, and games this fall and showed their determination, commitment, self-awareness and school spirit day in and day out.
Please enjoy a recap of the Fall Season and reflections from the Varsity Head Coaches below.

Note from Varsity Head Coach Kaitlin May Brown: The Varsity XC team had a strong FAA season, recording a record of 6-3, while earning a fourth place finish in the FAA Championships. The team had two runners place in the Top 10, earning themselves All- Team FAA recognition. Following the FAA’s, we traveled to St. Mark's School to compete in the New England Championships where we placed 8th out of 18 teams.
- Middle School Cross Country: Our MS team had an exciting season participating in 5 total meets and an FAA Championship meet. The courses varied from one location to another allowing the team to develop and adjust during each race.
Note from Varsity Head Coach Alex Gheorghe:
Varsity A Field Hockey:
The Varsity A Team had an exciting Fall '22 Season. Looking in the mirror, we had to replace the loss of two top Division 1 talented senior captains from the Fall '21 team, one in the mid-field and the other on offense. After re-building the line-up, we earned First Place in the Fairchester Athletic Association regular season. Unfortunately, the team fell short in the FAA Postseason Tournament Final with a late 0-1 game loss at home. Overall, we ranked 3rd in the Class A Western New England District 4 Division. The team earned a 6th place seed in the Class A New England Postseason Tournament. This season we graduated the largest number of players, many of whom will be playing college field hockey next year. We are excited to build our program with our youngest talent next Fall.
Varsity B Field Hockey: Under the tutelage of veteran Coach Abdel El-Kettani, the Varsity B Field Hockey team had another successful season. Finishing with an overall winning record of 7-1, the team scored an impressive 37 goals while registering only 6 goals against. The team culminated the season with a first place win in the FAA Post Season Tournament which highlights the program's continued success. While the team graduates a strong base of talented senior athletes, there are many promising JV players coming along in the program.
JV Field Hockey:
JV field hockey had an incredible fall season finishing with 7 wins, 2 losses and 4 ties. We participated in the FAA JV tournament held here at Sacred Heart, finishing in 3rd place overall.
- 7 / 8 A Field Hockey: Our Field Hockey program is in great hands with our 7th and 8th graders. This team earned a record of 4-0-1 this fall season.
- 7 / 8 B Field Hockey: Our Field Hockey program is in great hands with our 7th and 8th graders. This team earned a record of 2-3-1 this fall season.
- 5 / 6 Field Hockey: This team brought home a 4-1-1 record and played with heart in each game.
Varsity Head Coach Costel Mutescu: We had an exciting season filled with lots of progress, learning moments, laughs, and most importantly, heart-felt, competitive racing. We raced in three regattas and in the most prestigious Head of Charles regatta. The girls had a very good time in Boston and we gained some really positive experience.
Note from Varsity Head Coach Stuart Smith:
Varsity A Soccer: This year we found just how deep the pool of talented soccer players is at Sacred Heart. It was our first season with three US soccer teams and each team produced their own impressive season. Our JV team finished 5-2-4, our Varsity B team was undefeated finishing 8-0 and our Varsity A team finished 7-7-4 losing narrowly in the semi-final of the FAA Play-off’s.
Our three MS teams worked hard each day with their coaches developing their fundamental footskills and competing in games vs local middle schools. We are excited to see these players progress into the US program in the coming years.
It was so much fun seeing our teams compete on the grass this season! Despite graduating ten players last year, we approached the Fall 22 season without fear. Players stepped up and took ownership of starting positions and we quickly came together as a team to take on the high level of opponents we face in both New England’s and FAA’s. Season highlights were our pre-season trip to Golden Goal for team building and a game vs the reigning NY State Champions along with great regular season win’s vs GA and FAA tournament champions St Lukes. With so many returning players next year and so much talent across the US and MS teams I am filled with excitement for the future of Sacred Heart Soccer.
Varsity B Soccer: The Varsity B soccer team had an outstanding season with an overall record of 8-0. They scored a total of 44 goals and only conceded 2 goals. A season highlight was having our Senior Captain, Emma Neary, score a hattrick in the senior day game against Hackley.
JV Soccer: JV Soccer started the season with large aspirations with a 13 player squad; made up of Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors. The team did very well finishing with a 5-2-4 overall record. The team was characterized by its strong work ethic and determination!
- 7 / 8 A Soccer: Our Soccer program is making incredible strides! This team earned a record of 2-1-1 this fall season.
- 7 / 8 B Soccer: Another incredible team we have elevating our Soccer program!
- 5 / 6 Field Hockey: Our youngest crew worked so hard as well! This team brought home a 4-3-1 record and played with heart in each game.
Note from Varsity Head Coach Beth Wilson-Jordan:
Varsity Volleyball: The Varsity Volleyball team of 12 players and 2 coaches had a very special and memory making season! They started the season with a second-place finish in the preseason Labor Day “Nectar” Tournament competing against 8 public and 3 other CT private schools. The team finished 2 nd place in the FAA (9-1) and ended up FAA Championship Runner Up in a 2-3 loss in the FAA final. The team finished 8 th of 22 Class A schools in the NEPSAC and in the post season played the number #1 seed to a 2-3 match in the quarter finals. This team played with HEART finishing an amazing season at 16-7 overall and throughout the journey with the support of fans, faculty, friends and family cheering in the stands, never losing a single match on our beautiful home court.
JVA Volleyball: The JVA Volleyball team had a great season! They fought hard each game- winning the FAA Tournament and finishing with a 9-6 record. They played hard going to 5 sets with almost every team, continuing to grow each game! The girls built a bond together and had a great time!
JVB Volleyball: The JVB volleyball team displayed incredible hustle and determination this season, finishing with a 7-9 record. The season was capped with an outstanding 3-2 win against GA that served as an incredible display of the skills the girls developed throughout the season.
7/8 Volleyball: Our 7th and 8th graders had a great season! They developed their skill and basketball IQ immensely! They finished with a 4-5 record!
5/6 White Volleyball: One of our two 5/6 volleyball teams- these girls had so much fun while looking the ins and outs and Volleyball! They finished with a 1-1 record!
5/6 Green Volleyball: Our other 5/6 volleyball team- incredible heart and hustle from these girls! They finished with a 1-2 record!
