Future STEM Innovation Center

Strategic priorities from Pursuing Excellence Strategic Plan move into active

planning and implementation

GREENWICH, CT - May 14, 2026 – Sacred Heart Greenwich shared today that it has submitted materials to the Town of Greenwich for a proposed new STEM building and associated campus improvements, marking an exciting next step in the School’s vision for STEM and innovation.

The proposed project is part of Pursuing Excellence, Sacred Heart Greenwich’s five-year strategic plan, now entering its fourth year of implementation. The plan has guided significant investments in academic programming, student wellness, leadership development, global education, and campus initiatives. The proposed STEM facility represents another important milestone in advancing that vision and reflects Sacred Heart Greenwich’s continued commitment to preparing students for an increasingly complex and technology-driven world.

The envisioned approximately 25,000-square-foot facility would provide flexible, collaborative learning spaces designed to support contemporary STEM education, including engineering, computational thinking, robotics, interdisciplinary research, artificial intelligence, and project-based learning. The proposal also includes associated campus and infrastructure improvements intended to enhance accessibility, sustainability, and overall campus functionality.

“STEM education has evolved dramatically over the past several decades,” said Michael F. Baber, President of Sacred Heart Greenwich. “Today’s students need opportunities to engage in collaborative research, innovation, design thinking, and emerging technologies in ways that prepare them not only for college, but for leadership in a rapidly changing world. This vision reflects our commitment to providing young women with transformative opportunities in science and technology while remaining grounded in the Goals and Criteria that define a Sacred Heart education.”

The proposed building would complement the School’s existing academic facilities while creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, creativity, and innovation across divisions. The project builds upon Sacred Heart Greenwich’s longstanding commitment to STEM education, including its nationally recognized observatory program, strong student participation in science research and competitions, and leadership in the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence into education.

As part of the Town’s planning process, Sacred Heart Greenwich has submitted a request for pre-application review to the Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission. The School looks forward to engaging thoughtfully with the Town and broader community as the process moves forward.
