Perspectives Magazine Recognized by National Scholastic Press Association

December 19, 2025

Perspectives is thrilled to announce that the 2024-25 issue, with its theme of “In the Water,” has earned the honor of “All-American with Five Marks of Distinction” from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) through its merit awards and critique program. The NSPA is a national community of student journalists and scholastic journalism advisers, including those who work on literature and arts magazines. The All-American rating is the highest ranking possible. Perspectives earned Marks of Distinction in all five categories: Content; Writing and Editing; Photography, Art, Graphics; Design; and Concept.

Some of the feedback from the critique includes that our design includes “arresting spreads” with “strong design instincts.” Also, “your writers handle their topics with maturity and grace” and “this magazine showcases several compelling, emotionally resonant works.” Regarding visual components, Perspectives’ subsection art offers a “strong integration of full-page visuals that complement written pieces” and a “vibrant range of creative pieces that beautifully complemented and elevated the written works they accompanied.”

Overall, Perspectives “demonstrates a strong commitment to creativity, variety, and student voice. The range of content, from flash fiction and blackout poetry to six-word stories, longer narratives, and multimedia artwork, reflects a vibrant community of contributors willing to experiment with form. Several standout works ground this year's issue with emotional depth and originality. The art and photography are compelling, with eye-catching spreads and a bold cover that sets an engaging tone. Subsection art and full-page visuals succeed in amplifying the theme” of In the Water.

The 2025-26 Perspectives Team continues to work imaginatively and collaboratively on the latest issue (theme to be unveiled at the end of the year). Mentors Dr. Cristina Baptista and Miss Danielle Gennaro are extremely proud of our student editorial team, staff, and contributors! We are currently open to student submissions of art, photography, and writing in any creative genre for this year's issue: please send to perspectives@cshct.org
