Writing with Heart and Purpose

As members of the Class of 2026 and co-editors-in-chief of the King Street Chronicle, we proudly welcome readers to a new year of publication. Throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, we will collaborate closely with our staff writers and editors to create thoughtful and engaging content that highlights events within our school community and stories from the wider world. This year’s theme, “Lead with Heart, Act with Purpose,” inspires us to cultivate a newsroom where collaboration thrives and each writer embraces the opportunity to grow through meaningful contribution. In our final year with the King Street Chronicle, we strive to build an environment that values initiative and a shared commitment to journalistic excellence.

Student Body President, Mia Ritossa '26 leads the Upper School Student Council and declared the theme of "Lead with Heart, Act with Purpose" to inform the student body's mission for the academic year. As she welcomes new and returning students to King Street, Mia aims to embody these principles.  She commented on her inspiration for this year's theme.

"I chose this theme because I wanted to emphasize the most important lesson I have learned through my time at Sacred Heart," Mia said. "Leadership is not about being put on a pedestal, [...] it's about lifting others up through actions [and] leading through service and empathy."

We are ecstatic to welcome seven new staff writers and 12 returning editors and writers to the newsroom this year. As we set our sights on future editions, we look back with admiration and gratitude for the editors with whom we have collaborated over the past two years. With confidence and enthusiasm, we strive to replicate their dedication to the King Street Chronicle and use the skills we have honed through their leadership daily.

Goal IV, “the building of community as a Christian value,” shapes our mission to create a collaborative and supportive newsroom.  We will act with purpose each day to produce high-quality content that reflects our shared dedication.  Each staff member plays a vital role in the success of the King Street Chronicle, and we will actively support and encourage one another as the year unfolds.  We carry forward the example set by our former adviser, Ms. Matilde Larson, and the editors before us, as we lead with intention to run the paper as a united and driven team.

"This year, I plan lead with empathy and respect," Mia said. "I am willing to step into someone else's shoes, to celebrate their victories, and to support them when challenges arise. I look forward to leading by example, and inviting the rest of the community to lead with Heart and act with purpose academically and socially."

Goal V, “to educate to personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom,” informs our duty to exercise resilience and grow in confidence through both our work and our character. We seek intellectual development guided by values instilled in us by our Sacred Heart Greenwich educators, including our adviser, Mrs. Sarah Martin, Upper School English Teacher and English Department Chair.  We will work diligently to create an atmosphere of personal responsibility, recognizing our commitment to informing our community of critical events and topics in our school and world.

As leaders of the Upper School and members of the Editorial Board, we begin this year with a new sense of purpose and profound gratitude. St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, founder of the Society of the Sacred Heart, invites us to lead by example with “courage and confidence.” In response to this call, we approach our roles on the Editorial Board with humility, gratitude, and respect. We aim to lead with heart and take purposeful action to ensure the success of the publication. Together, we commit to fostering a thoughtful, inclusive, and inspiring newsroom where every voice and story matters.

It is with great pride we welcome you to another year with the King Street Chronicle.
