As the Class of 2026 prepares to close their journey at Sacred Heart Greenwich, the seniors extend their heartfelt gratitude to the teachers who have guided, challenged, and inspired them throughout their time on King Street.  In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, these special messages celebrate the educators who have made a lasting impact on their academic and personal lives.

Mr. Cameron McManus, Upper School Theology Teacher

“I am so grateful for Mr. McManus because he brings so much kindness, understanding, and compassion into the classroom every single day.  His unwavering support and genuine care for his students have made such a meaningful difference in my Sacred Heart experience.  More than anything, he has greatly fostered my love for ethics and theology, encouraging me to think deeply about important questions and engage thoughtfully with the world around me.  Through his teaching, I have learned lessons that extend far beyond the classroom, lessons about faith, morality, reflection, and understanding others, that I know I will carry with me to college and far beyond.  Mr. McManus is such an essential part of the theology department and the Sacred Heart community as a whole, and it truly will not be the same without him.  I am so thankful for everything he has taught me and for the way he has inspired me to grow both academically and personally.”

Mr. Luke Woodard, Upper School English Teacher

“Mr. Woodard has had such a profound impact on my growth as a student and writer.  From the very beginning, he constantly pushed our class to dig deeper, think more critically, and always strive to learn more.  He never allowed us to settle for surface-level ideas, instead encouraging us to expand our analysis and strengthen our voices as writers.  His positive attitude and enthusiasm made every class discussion engaging and meaningful, and he always found ways to involve everyone in the conversation.  He challenged us to take our thinking further and helped us to see the value in thoughtful discussion and intellectual curiosity.  Because of his encouragement and guidance, my writing skills have grown tremendously, and I feel so much more confident in my ability to express complex ideas clearly and effectively.  I am incredibly grateful for the way he motivated me to push beyond my limits and become a strong thinker and communicator.”

Mr. Joseph Valentine, Upper School History Teacher

“Mr. Valentine is one of the kindest and most understanding teachers I have had during my time at Sacred Heart.  He consistently goes above and beyond to make sure every student feels prepared, supported, and confident in the material.  No matter how challenging a topic may seem, he always takes the time to explain it with patience and clarity, ensuring that everyone truly understands.  His reliability and dedication never go unnoticed, and he is someone students can always count on for help, guidance, and encouragement.  What makes his classroom so special is not only his commitment to helping us succeed academically, but also the positivity and warmth he brings every day.  He is always in a good mood, and his uplifting presence creates an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and growing in their learning.  I am so thankful for all the time and effort he has invested in helping us succeed.”

Mr. John Martone, Upper School Mathematics Teacher

“Mr. Martone made such a meaningful impact on my academic journey last year in the Learning Center.  He was always incredibly helpful, patient, and kind, and he consistently made himself available whenever I needed support.  His willingness to take the time to explain concepts, offer guidance, and encourage me through challenges made such a difference in my confidence as a student.  More than just helping with academics, he created a welcoming and supportive environment where I always felt comfortable asking for help.  His kindness and dedication truly stood out and I am so grateful for the support he gave me during such an important year.  His encouragement helped me not only grow as a student, but also in my confidence and belief in my own abilities.”

Mr. Colby Verge, Upper School Learning Specialist

"Mr. Verge has been such an important source of support throughout my time in the Upper School.  He is truly one of the kindest and most approachable people at this school, and he always creates an environment where students feel comfortable asking for help.  Whether he is helping me stay organized, manage my workload, or simply checking in to see how things are going, Mr. Verge consistently goes above and beyond for his students.  His patience, encouragement, and positive attitude have made such a difference in my confidence and success as a student.  I am so grateful for the care and dedication he brings to the Sacred Heart community every day."

- Eloise Liggitt '26

Dr. Kelly Connelly, Upper School Theology Teacher

“Dr. Connelly has had a profound impact on both my academic and spiritual life.  At the beginning of junior year, she introduced our class to St. Thomas Aquinas’s prayer before a test, and ever since then, it has been something that truly grounds me.  I still recite the prayer before every test, and this year I have even had the privilege of leading my calculus class in saying it together before exams.  It is a tradition and a sense of peace that I will gladly carry with me into college and beyond.  More importantly, Dr. Connelly taught me that learning is not simply about achievement, but about allowing God to guide us toward greater understanding and wisdom.  She showed me that education can be a spiritual journey, one that shapes us personally as much as academically.  Her faith, kindness, and thoughtful teaching have changed the way I approach both school and life, and I am incredibly grateful for her influence.”

Mr. Kevin King, Upper School History Teacher

“Mr. King is one of the most passionate and dedicated teachers I have ever had.  His level of preparation and organization is unmatched, and it is clear every day how much he genuinely loves teaching.  Whether we are learning about Chinese dynasties, philosophers, or major historical events, Mr. King always brings an incredible depth of knowledge and enthusiasm into the classroom.  No matter what question you ask, he somehow always knows the answer and every detail that comes with it.  What makes Mr. King so memorable is not only his intelligence, but also the energy and care he brings to his students each day.  He makes history feel exciting, meaningful, and alive, while constantly encouraging us to stay curious and think critically.  I am so grateful for the impact Mr. King has had on my high school experience.”
