Humans of Sacred Heart - Izzy Nedder '27
How has Earth Week deepened your awareness of environmental responsibility?
“Earth Week has provided me an opportunity to reflect on my negative and positive impacts on the earth and to reflect on how I can further my beneficial impacts on the earth. Looking over many of the workshops that will be participated in on Friday has also broadened my view and allowed me to learn and see new ideas that could benefit our earth. This week also brings ideas of environmental responsibility to the forefront of my mind and forces me to be conscious of my actions which could negatively impact the earth.”
How does the global celebration of Earth Week among Sacred Heart schools reflect the shared mission of the Sacred Heart Network?
“This year especially, the network wide celebrations are more interconnected due to the efforts of the SSC (Network Student Sustainability Committee). This committee has organized a network wide spirit week and Sacred Heart Greenwich is hosting many network schools at the second Sustainability Summit this Friday. This collectivization demonstrates the unity and ultimate mission of all Sacred Heart schools. It demonstrates our commitment to carry out Goal III Criteria 4 to creating a lasting beneficial impact on the world.”
In what ways does Earth Week encourage lasting commitment to environmental action beyond raising awareness within our school community?
“Earth Week helps raise awareness to ideas mostly overlooked. Many of us take our beautiful land for granted and assume these acres will be here to last an eternity, but earth week grounds us and forces us to accept this is not true. This week allows for one to reflect on their impact on the earth, and possibly set an intention to improve our treatment towards the earth. With such reflection, it is hoped that these beneficial practices such as composting or recycling may continue to be at the forefront of our mind and create a lasting impact beyond Earth Week.”
