Best of 2025

As 2026 comes into focus, the King Street Chronicle staff reflects on a successful year of publication and the national and global events that left their mark on 2025.  In January, wildfires demolished over half a million acres of land across Los Angeles, California.  The inauguration of President Donald John Trump as the 47th president and Vice President James David (JD) Vance took place January 20.  This date marked the beginning of the second nonconsecutive presidential term since 1893.  The Trump administration imposed increased tariffs on foreign goods imported into the United States (US) in April, and in June, the president deployed the National Guard to major US cities, including Washington D.C. and Chicago.  Global conflicts persisted, with Russia and Ukraine reaching three years of war and the Israel-Palestine conflict entering its second year.  Following Pope Francis’s death in April, the Vatican elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost to continue the papacy.  Thus, Pope Leo XIV became the first American pope in history May 8.  The longest US government shutdown in history began October 1 and lasted 43 days, affecting both federal workers and civilians.  Artificial intelligence competition among developers intensified throughout the year as well.  In December, mass shootings at Brown University and Bondi Beach, Australia heightened global conversation surrounding gun violence.  In 2025, the King Street Chronicle welcomed seven staff writers to the newsroom.  The newspaper accrued 100,342 page views, and users read 106,264 stories.  Please enjoy 15 of the best articles, videos, and podcasts from 2025, chosen by the Editorial Board.
