The Stamford Art Association, the city’s oldest art gallery and association, has announced the winners of the 47th annual Student Art Show at its Townhouse Gallery.

Opening with a reception Sunday, Feb. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m., and running through Thursday, March 12, the multimedia juried art exhibit features more than 100 high school artists selected by their art teachers from 13 Fairfield County high schools. The juror is Herm Freeman, artist and longtime art educator.

The art teachers selected the work of up to eight junior and senior art students from their schools and their work is displayed in five categories: painting, drawing, photography and prints, 3D and portfolios. All selected students participate in the exhibit. The awards to the students, which total $2,500, are contributed by Stamford Art Association artists and friends.

Over the many years that the Stamford Art Association has organized this exhibit, more than. $147,000 has been awarded to the Fairfield County high school art students.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4, will present the awards to the up-and-coming student artists at the opening reception. The exhibit is sponsored in part by a CAPP grant from the City of Stamford and the Kuriansky Foundation.
