GREENWICH, CT, March 27, 2023 – Sacred Heart Greenwich announced today that it has appointed Mrs. Mary Frederick as Head of Middle School effective July 1, 2023. This change in leadership comes after Mr. John Zwack, current Head of the Middle School, will depart Sacred Heart at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 academic year to pursue new opportunities.
Frederick, the parent of Alana Frederick ‘21, joins Sacred Heart Greenwich from St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, Connecticut where she has worked for the past seven years in various roles including Upper School and Middle School Math Department Chair, and most recently Assistant Head of Upper School. In her new role, Frederick will serve as the educational leader of the Middle School, ensuring students’ spiritual, educational, social, physical, and psychological needs are met through an innovative and robust curriculum that will prepare them for Upper School as well as their future careers. In addition, she will oversee the professional development of middle school faculty and staff and manage the co-curricular offerings and student experience.
“We are excited to welcome Mary Frederick to our Sacred Heart community,” said Michael F. Baber, President and Head of School at Sacred Heart Greenwich. “Mary’s 20-year tenure working in independent schools and her strong track record in developing and supporting student achievement will ensure that Sacred Heart is able to build on our strengths while expanding an innovative and comprehensive Middle School curriculum that supports our Catholic, Independent, and Sacred Heart identity and prepares students for the demands of Upper School. I would like to thank John Zwack for his leadership and unwavering commitment over the past 17 years.”
As the Assistant Head of Upper School at St. Luke’s, Frederick has experience in supporting and growing innovative academic and co-curricular programs with a student-centered approach, building school culture, developing new policies and procedures for student success, and implementing innovative teaching practices. As a forward-thinking administrator and leader, she oversaw a comprehensive math curriculum review in grades 5-12, was responsible for both the Upper and Middle school Math departments, and worked collaboratively with Division Heads and department chairs to institute new programming. Frederick also participated in the Upper School's Advisory program, Student Council, new student orientation, and the faculty growth and renewal team in support of teachers' professional growth while developing and leading programming and professional development. Prior to St. Luke’s, she worked in both middle and upper school math departments at St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, Florida, and at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia. Prior to education, Mary spent 10 years in the hospitality industry in New York City and Boca Raton, Florida
“As a parent of a Sacred Heart Greenwich graduate, I am thrilled to be joining Sacred Heart Greenwich as the new Head of Middle School,” said Mary Frederick. “I have seen firsthand the positive impact of a Sacred Heart education and I am delighted to now be a part of the educational team that will continue to improve the exceptional middle school program. I welcome the challenge of becoming a visible champion of student growth, innovative teaching practices, and the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart”
Frederick holds a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University and a Certificate in Advanced Educational Leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
