Sacred Heart Greenwich students in Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School won a total of 11 awards at the 2023 Area 9 Cable Council Educational Access Awareness Awards. The Educational Access Awareness Awards sponsored by the Area 9 Cable Council (A9CC) and Altice were announced May 12.
It is especially meaningful that 6th graders from the Middle School's newly launched news show, "The Stuart Scoop" were recognized with a first place award as best Middle School news show in their very first year of production. Lower School students won awards for their breaking news segment about the butterfly project as well as the Groundhog's Day edition of "News from the Heart." Also of note is that the Upper School news show, "Today from the Heart," has won first place in the region for 12 out of the past 14 years of the competition.
The Area 9 Cable Council (A9CC) and Altice sponsor this contest yearly to encourage students to develop video production and storytelling skills by creating videos that are relevant to their school and community. The videos have been broadcast throughout the school year on Altice’s Educational Access Channel 78. The Ed Access competition is open to students from Greenwich, Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan, Weston, and Westport.
"I'm incredibly proud of our students from 2nd grade to 12th grade who were recognized as some of the best filmmakers in Fairfield County. Congratulations to all of the students and the faculty who worked behind the scenes including Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. George, Mr. Pisani, and Ms. Principe. It is very exciting to see that we have thriving news shows in all three divisions giving students of all ages the opportunity to share their voices while working in a state-of-the-art studio," said Director of Media Studies, Design & Innovation Ms. Ellyn Stewart.
